in our global capitalist economic system, the liberalization of trade barriers, the deregulation of political and environmental policies and the privatization of industry all work to place the company above all else, circumventing the state and even state borders.
- essay from intro to globalization, by me, lily rothrock, october 2011.
reading old essays…concluding sentence: “without the state, labor would be inaccessible to companies and their (companies) power would be obsolete.”
example: “the philippine state facilitates it’s population by making paperwork and visas easy, mobilizes by providing transportation and the idea to move, and regulates by establishing a bank to receive remittances.”
so the state and the corporation work hand in hand, one hand over each throat, holding us in a choke. but careful to keep us breathing, careful to make sure our fingers can still make ipads and shoes and jeans.
i wonder how powerful this will turn out to be: i declare myself free from the state and the corporations. i declare myself a free human of planet earth; a protector of air, fire, water and earth. i declare myself unbound to the systems that perpetuate violence. i declare myself bound only to my own will and heartfelt desires.
